REDEMPTION CONGREGATION
History of Redemption Congregation
In August 2016, Mr. Samuel Yeboah who had then moved from Italy to Telford met Mr Kwabena Acheampong at a barber salon where both men had gone for their personal business. Samuel and Kwabena exchanged pleasantries and as the conversation progressed, it became apparent to both they had a common interest; they both belonged to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana by birth, baptism and confirmation. As the conversation continued, they explored each others Christian commitments here in Telford. They soon established that as there was no Presby congregation here in Telford upon their arrival, they had joined and communed with other Christian denominations. It was clear in their conversation that both men had a keen interest and willingness to start a Presbyterian congregation here in Telford. At the end of their business, the two departed but these discussions continued in the background through phone calls.
With this in mind, on Tuesday 27th December 2016 a formal meeting was held at the premises of Mr. Louis Acheampong to discuss an action plan for the formation and establishment of a Presby church her in Telford. Present at the meeting were Mr. Samuel Yeboah, Mr. Louis Acheampong, Mr. Kwabena Acheampong, Mr. Isaac Boye Doe and Mr. Eric Asare. Discussions centered on how and when a congregation will be started and the rest as they say is now written in history.
On Sunday 8th January 2017, the first service of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Telford was held at 134 Burtondale, Brookside to officially commence PCG Telford as a preaching post. There were a total of six adults at the service on that day and the sermon was delivered by Mr. Samuel Yeboah.
As the appetite grew and word went round there was the need for a much bigger place of worship. The then leadership of the church decided to secure a central location that was spacious enough and would easily be accessible to attending members. On 2nd April 2017 the service was moved to Meeting Point House in the heart of Telford, which is in the Telford Town Centre. Services carried on until another move was plotted to secure another venue. On 4th June 2017, Brookeside Community Centre became the new venue for as it offered a much larger place of worship and better met the needs of the ever increasing membership.
As the membership grew and the church progressed, it was again decided there was need to secure a more permanent place of worship.
The leadership acted quickly and secured the premises of St Georges Methodist Church and on 12th November 2017, the first service was held. Here Our inability to purchase that property meant we had to move out again. Currently we are using the Holy Trinity Church in Hadley as our place of worship from the beginning of January 2023.
To God be all the glory, honour and adoration. We could not have done this without the permission, grace and will of God. It is also worth pointing out that the Interim Management Committee has been instrumental in the progress of the Redemption Congregation.
The first appointed members of the IMC included Mr Samuel Yeboah , Mr Kwabena Acheampong Snr, Miss Priscilla Acheampong (Secretary), Miss Gifty Anorfoah (treasurer), Mr Amoako, Madam Appiah Agyei and Mr. Kwabena Acheampong Jnr (Caretaker and now Catechist).
God has been very generous to our mission and has been faithful to us in several ways to the development and growth of what is now the Telford Redemption Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. Our Current membership stands at 117.
