History of Prince of Peace Congregation, Birmingham
The idea of establishing the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Birmingham was engineered by Mrs Juliana Owusu Nsiah when she migrated from Amsterdam. The Netherlands settled in Walsall in the United Kingdom.
In December 2014, Mrs Owusu Nsiah and Rev Obeng Manu went evangelism and met Mr Samuel Attah Danso in Walsall town centre, through discussions they decided to meet at Mrs Juliana Owusu Nsiah’s residence and as the conversation progressed, it became possible for both parties have one common goals; They both belongs to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana by birth, Baptised and Confirmed which are common value of the Presbyterian Church of Ghanan. The first meeting took place on Sunday 11th day of January 2015 at Mrs Juliana Owusu Nsiah’s residence, 14 Edwards Place Walsall to outline the implementation and establishment of the Presbyterian Church at Walsall.
A church service was organised on the 18th day of January 2015 at the usual place. Members present were Mrs Juliana Owusu Nsiah, Mr Samuel Attah Danso, Mr Opoku Agyemang, Nana Kwadwo Adjei and Rev. Obeng Manu. Rev Obeng Manu administered the word of God and gave communion to members. On 21st June 2015, the Church moved from Mrs Owusu Nsiah’s residence to Arboretum Nursing Home, Walsall. The following members joined Mrs Beatrice Appiah Kubi, Mr Kwaku Omari, Miss Vera Agyapomaa and Kwaku Omari Junior. Due to the rapid growth of the Church, the leaders decided to move the Church from Walsall to Birmingham where the catchment area is very wide.
On the 15th day of November 2015 Prince of Peace congregation, in Birmingham had their first Church Service at 1 Bath Street, Birmingham B4 6HG, they stayed there for over two years. In April 2017 an Interim Management Committee (IMC) was established to manage the activities of the church. Mr Samuel Attah Danso (Senior Presbyter), Mr Kwaku Omari (Clerk), and Mr Roosevelt Nii Nortey (Treasurer) under the leadership of Catechist Stephenson Akowuah Derkyi. These leaders identified a suitable place of worship at Balsall Heath Community Church Centre, 100 Mary Street, Balsall Heath, Birmingham B12 9JU has become a place of Worship to date.
Mrs Angelina S. Boateng and Mrs Rosemond Addy were asked to join the (IMC) and this was endorsed by North London District Minister, Rev. Justice K. Assuming. In June 2018 a new (IMC) was elected, they consisted of Mr Samual Attah Danso, Mr Martin Aboagye, Mrs Matilda Asare Okyere and Mr Kwadwo Bediako moved Prince of Peace Congregation to a different Level through their hard work and dedication. On the 20Th of October 2019, Presbyters was elected to Office. They are as follows: Mr Samuel Attah Danso. Mr Martin Aboagye, Mr Roosevelt Nii Nortey, Mr Joseph Opare Asiedu, Mrs Matilda Asare Okyere and Ms Vida Oduro-Kankam.
On the 4th of February 2024, new Presbyters were inducted into office. Rev Frank Osei the minister in charge of Prince of Peace Congregation Commissioned with the help of Mr Kwadwo Bediako (Caretaker), Mrs Matilda Asare Okyere (Senior Presbyter), Mrs Gifty Jubin Fofie (Clerk), Professor Kwabena Duedu (Treasurer), Mr Isaac Mireku (Member), and Mrs Angelina Asiedu (Member). The Presbyters elect raises the Church Banner. Evangelism is our heartbeat, so all members are encouraged especially the Youth. Prince of Peace Congregation has one service every Sunday from 1 pm to 3 pm in Balsall Heath Community Centre, 100 Mary Street, Balsall Heath, Birmingham B12 9JU. A prayer meeting on Tuesdays and Bible study is included in the main Service. The numerical strength is 60 of which Adults 20, Youth 18, and Children Service 22. Groups in the church are as follows: Children’s Service, Junior Youth, Young Peoples Guild, Young Adult Fellowship, Women’s Fellowship, Men’s Fellowship, Church Choir and Singing Band.
